Research Focus
Dr. Matthew D Stachler's lab at UCSF focuses on understanding how Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer, progresses and how at-risk patients can be identified. The team develops and validates a combination of genomic and methylation biomarkers to enhance risk stratification for patients. Through this research, they aim to improve early detection and treatment of esophageal adenocarcinoma, which is often aggressive and difficult to manage.
