Dr. Frederick Stull's lab focuses on understanding how certain bacteria resist the human immune system, specifically through a protein called hypothiocyanous acid reductase (Har). This enzyme allows bacteria to neutralize hypothiocyanous acid, a natural defense mechanism produced by our bodies. The research aims to reveal how Har works at the molecular level, potentially leading to the development of new antibiotics.
