Dr. Lubbertus C. Mulder's lab focuses on understanding how drug use affects HIV latency, particularly in the brain's immune cells called microglia. The team is investigating a group of viruses known as human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) and how they interact with HIV. Their goal is to find new markers for HIV latency and to see how these relationships can be influenced by narcotic use.
