Research Focus
Dr. Peiying Liu's lab focuses on improving our understanding and diagnosis of cognitive impairment related to small vessel disease in the brain, which affects many elderly patients, including those with Alzheimer's Disease. They are developing a new MRI technique called normalized cerebrovascular reactivity (nCVR) that measures how well blood vessels in the brain respond to changes in gas levels, which could help identify vascular issues that contribute to cognitive decline. This work is important for creating better diagnostic tools for dementia and cognitive health in older adults.

Research Aims
3AIM 01Develop a normalized cerebrovascular reactivity (nCVR) mapping technique using hypercapnia and hyperoxia.
AIM 02Benchmark the nCVR technique against existing methods to demonstrate its sensitivity and reliability.
AIM 03Validate the nCVR method in participants with varying cognitive health statuses to assess its diagnostic potential.
